This is what happens when you legitimize a once marginalized populance. When you invite them to take a seat at the big boy table and give credence to their message, provide a platform for their voice.
Their hate metastasizes disproportionate to their representation. Their rot spreads; infects neighbors and associates until the stench takes over the greater whole.
The one thing I learned in Hebrew School was “never forget,” and I haven’t. We know what happens when a citizenry turns a blind eye to the everyday horrors unfolding around them.
The pathway to perdition is paved in ignorance. Future generations need not wonder where you stood when our leaders decided to play Russian roulette with our democracy.
